HANDWOVEN PURAKA BASKET

This basket has been handwoven in West Sumba. Used to store rice, this basket is essential to rural life in Sumba and found in almost every traditional Sumbanese household.
It is made from sustainably harvested daun lontar that is woven into a "puraka" pattern. This basket will develop a nice patina over time.
